Enough with the Days to Celebrate Diversity

Today’s Unpopular Thought – Enough with the days, weeks, and months to appreciate all the diversity around.
Disclaimer: I am not talking about movements such as Black Lives Matter or Me Too. I am talking about all the national days, weeks, and months. I am not against a single one of the topics; I am against the fact that the people being recognized tend to only matter during their designated time.
It is time to change the narrative. We should learn about Autism, feeding tubes, Ehlers Danlos, African American history and value, Hispanic culture, Pride, and so many more by talking to those around us. The creation of these months can unintentionally create a divide, making those who have a nationally appointed time seem like novelties.
Embracing the diversity on your block, on your road, in your community, in your state, and in your nation enhances your life. Taking the time to know the aspects of someone living their best life while you live yours enriches everyone’s experience.
Change the narrative. Talk to people, learn about what makes them different and the same as you, and watch the richness grow in your life. Instead of waiting for a designated month, start today. Join community groups, attend local events, or simply strike up conversations with your neighbors. Let’s make diversity appreciation a daily practice.

I actually really like this perspective. Like… diversity shouldn’t be seasonal. People aren’t themes or trends, they’re just people living life every day. I love your push for everyday connection and actually talking to people. That’s where real understanding happens.
